In the US, a collective of tribes under the Sioux nation were “granted” their own land by invading European colonists, which was then stolen from them again by the same colonists and sold off. The state of South Dakota, along with other entities or citizens, are looking to purchase a large swath of traditionally Sioux land to build a highway… thing is, this particular piece of land is the centre of the Sioux creation stories, and is the place of the highest powers for them and their magics. Outsiders largely couldn’t care less. Their tribe is not one of the prosperous casino-owning tribes, and they have virtually no chance of acquiring their land on their own. They need help to purchase as much of the property as possible. The auction begins in seven days. And South Dakota has far more than a million dollars to beat them with. As for myself, I don’t believe in the religious sort of business, but I can’t deny that an important piece of cultures largely undocumented would be lost should that land be erased with Wal-marts, petrol stations, and asphalt.
